Point Hicks Lighthouse

In 1890 the remote lighthouse keepers settlement at Point Hicks was completed comprising the lighthouse and housing to three lighthouse keepers and their families.

Imagine how they lived all those years ago with supplies coming every few months by a ship and docking at a wharf, lugging all the supplies to the cottages.

You can still do lighthouse tours conducted by the resident managers of the lighthouse and may be lucky to hear the ghost of Kristofferson, a lighthouse keeper who was lost whilst pulling up a cray pot off the point. His boots can be heard climbing the impressive Spiral staircase up to the top of the lighthouse.

High in the tower the light, fresnel lens and clockwork mechanism that sent the light beam 26 nautical miles out to sea are still intact for you to see. Constructed to British Admiralty standards it is an excellent example of nautical engineering.
